Hypnosis Spiral and Other Methods to Induce Hypnotic Trance

Hypnosis is a light “trance”–a state somewhere between sleeping and waking. People in a hypnotic trance are typically very focused on one stimulus to the exclusion of others. People in a hypnotic trance are also somewhat suggestible, although they are by no means unable to control themselves and continue to bear full responsibility for their actions.
There are several ways to induce a hypnotic trance. Some of the more popular ones include the hypnosis spiral, the use of an object that glitters such as a piece of jewelry or a gold watch, and progressive relaxation.
Hypnosis Spiral
As the title suggests, a hypnosis spiral is a constantly moving spiral pattern. Hypnosis spirals are available on many websites dealing with trance induction. Some of them are available for free download; others must be purchased. Once you have obtained a hypnosis spiral, induce trance by having your subject keep his or her eyes on it for several minutes. While the subject is doing this, you can deepen the trance by playing relaxing music or offering suggestions that the subject is becoming sleepy, that his or her limbs and eyelids are becoming heavy, etc.
A hypnosis spiral can also be used to test a person’s ability to be hypnotized. Have your would-be subject watch the spiral for thirty seconds. After that, have your subject look at the palm of his or her hand. If the subject sees no abnormalities in the spiral or the hand, he or she will probably be quite difficult to hypnotize. On the other hand, the subject who sees the spiral start to change colors and sees an increase in size in his or her hand is probably quite suggestible and easy to hypnotize.
Bright Objects
Another way to induce trance is to hold a bright object, such as a sparkly piece of jewelry, just above the subject’s eye level and tell the subject to keep his or her eyes on it. Eventually, the eyes will become weary and the eyelids will become heavy. The hypnotist then steps in with suggestions that the subject is feeling sleepy, cannot keep his or her eyes open, etc.
Progressive Relaxation
A final way to induce hypnotic trance, favored in the psychotherapeutic and medical community, is progressive relaxation. Speaking in a calm, authoritative voice, the hypnotist instructs the subject to first tense, then relax, every major muscle group starting with the toes. By the time the hypnotist reaches the muscles in the neck and face, the subject will be in a deep, relaxed trance. How To Hypnotize – The Techniques

Nov 21st, 2009 by

The induction is the process that helps people go into a state of hypnosis, where they will be more susceptible to suggestion, and where their unconscious mind will take messages onboard. People choose to go into this state because they want to achieve a certain change or improvement in a specific part of their lives, usually.
How a hypnotist carries out an induction can vary greatly. Different techniques work well for different people. There can be hundreds or even thousand of induction scripts or approaches.
In therapeutic hypnosis, known as hypnotherapy, we generally use a technique we call progressive relaxation. This means helping the person to become progressively more and more relaxed until they eventually fall into the state of hypnosis. It’s a gradual process, helped along by suggestions of continued relaxation. I’ll ask them to close their eyes, of course, and then ask them to start to take some nice long deep breaths. This really helps to relax people.
One way that I find very effective in getting people to relax is to have them concentrate on different muscles, or different body parts. Obviously when you do this, you naturally become more relaxed. I like to start with their heads, face and neck muscles, and work my way down, along their entire body, focusing on one muscle or body part at a time, until they are completely relaxed, literally from head to toe. You could do it the other way around I suppose. I choose to work downward as it correlates with sinking deeper into total relaxation. We always refer to that process as going down, further down. So I just prefer to use the technique working downward.
The hypnosis induction technique that most people would be familiar with is obviously what they’ve seen in stage hypnosis. That’s a very different approach from therapeutic, hypnotherapy inductions. In stage hypnosis they use a very authoritarian approach, very direct induction. They have to. They need to keep a crowd of several hundred people entertained, which necessitates impact. Plus there is a visual impact achieved when a hypnotist executes an induction, a very sharp, direct induction, and the subject falls to the floor or otherwise gives some defining visual signal that he’s hypnotized.
The handshake induction is somewhat commonly recognized as well, but in reality, a stage hypnotist would not attempt this technique without first assuring himself that the subject is already hypnotized, or at least highly susceptible.
In hypnotherapy we have no need to make a visual impression on an audience. The same is true of self hypnosis recordings. In self hypnosis recordings a laid back approach is used, composed of many different elements, and is usually based on the theory of progressive relaxation. It is highly effective. In reality, for a hypnotherapist or for an unprofessional person who have practiced hypnosis well, it can be a powerful tool. Hypnosis requires a person who is ready to consent so that it can work.
In many cases, Self hypnotism helps directly to achieve various goals of life, while for others it provides motivation and faith. In such cases after practicing some sessions of particular hypnosis one can get deep into the same work. In this case it is not directly helping to loss weight, but is assisting you by stimulating the interest of a person to exercise more, and provide more energy to let down the weight. Similarly, in case of Quit smoking hypnosis, it promotes the interest of the person to quit smoking so that he can get rid of the habit easily.

Should Stage Hypnotism Be Shunned By Hypnotherapists?

Nov 2nd, 2009 by

Stage Hypnotism is a subject that is somewhat shunned within the modern day Hypnotherapy profession in the twenty-first century; however that same profession has its roots mainly in the very thing that it shuns. So why is the profession of Hypnotherapy trying to distance itself from the art of Stage Hypnotism – the very thing that helped it to become so very popular? And also, has Stage Hypnotism got any role to play in the modern twenty-first century Hypnotherapy profession? Well within this article I hope to give you something to think about in order to answer these questions for yourselves.
Let’s start right at the beginning of what is considered the commencement of modern day Hypnosis in Europe. To do this we have to start in the small Swabian town of Iznang on the banks of Bodensee (Lake Constance) on the German-Swish border in 1734, with the birth of Franz Anton Mesmer. Mesmer himself was a performer, usually performing his healings in front of vast crowds of people. Mesmer was overly flamboyant and very charismatic. In many people’s eyes, he truly is the father of modern day Hypnosis and the very first Stage Hypnotist! So to begin with you can see just how long Stage Hypnotism and Hypnotherapy have been working together as one!
Next I want to cover the argument that Stage Hypnotism should be distanced from mainstream Hypnotherapy. For a lot of people, the thought portrayed in Stage Hypnotism of the Hypnotist having complete control over them is a scary prospect. In many cases this can actually stop them from getting the help that they so urgently need, to deal with issues that they may have. After much thinking this is the only negative that I can find.
Now on to the argument that Stage Hypnotism does have a place in modern day Hypnosis and should continue to be used. For at least the last one hundred years, Stage Hypnotism has acted as a vehicle to promote the benefits of Hypnotherapy. There is no doubting this fact. Here in the United Kingdom in the nineties we saw a major boost to Hypnotherapy with the introduction of a Stage Hypnotism show on mainstream television. This is even motivating thousands to both seek Hypnotherapy and train as Hypnotherapists still in 2007.
So there you have it – two sides of the argument and the modern day roots of Hypnosis – what do you think? Will Stage Hypnotism continue to get shunned by the Hypnotherapy profession or will it be used to help thousands more people to find the benefits from Hypnotherapy? You decide! Product Review

Secrets to Hypnotizing Someone Now

Oct 27th, 2009 by

Hypnotism is something that seems very elusive to people. This could be due to what many have witnessed in movies or possibly seen a collection of people hypnotized all at once. In it’s simplest form, hypnosis is simply a way to relax the mind through helping someone focus and alleviate blocks that may be keeping that individual from being in a relaxed state of mind. There are several ways that you can reach this state and many people are surprised to find that they actually are in a semi-hypnotized state of mind several times per day. How this happens is that people often daydream, become very relaxed or allow their minds to drift resulting in a semi-hypnotic state.
Maybe you have found an interest lately in learning how to hypnotize someone. If this is the case, there are plenty of courses available in the form of Cds, DVDs, on line courses and books at your disposal. There are also plenty of self hypnosis CDs available which cover a wide variety of subjects. They are used, for the most part, when an individual is dealing with an addiction or if they are trying to clear their mind of something that is bothering them. One thing that you will want to avoid are any of the courses that promise to teach you how to hypnotize someone using parlor tricks. Most people get courses like these only to realize later that they just do not work.
When you place an individual under hypnosis you will be enabling them to open their minds without having them susceptible to your complete control. When a person is under hypnosis, they are very relaxed but they are still in control of their faculties. One of the other fallacies about hypnosis is that when an individual is under they will incur amnesia. It would be hard for someone to find a case where this has happened. In the majority of cases, when someone is under hypnosis they are fully cognizant of the world around them.
The steps needed to actually hypnotize someone are pretty simple. We know already that people can sometimes hypnotize themselves. All you have to do is help them get to that actual state. With each individual hypnotherapist, each will have their own unique style that they use. The majority of styles will employ the use of a soft gentle voice and mental images to place a person in a hypnotic state.
For most people who are trying to learn how to hypnotize someone, the top thing they need to do is find a course and cast all the previous thoughts about hypnosis aside. Upon finding the best course on hypnosis, you’ll soon find that you can help others and yourself through this powerful and therapeutic medium.
